What We Are Seeing In Our Community
Through our therapeutic work, several recurring themes continue to emerge across the community we support.
Many people accessing Earth Wisdom describe experiences of:
-
overwhelm and emotional exhaustion
-
anxiety linked to chronic stress and nervous system overwhelm
-
loneliness and disconnection
-
trauma and relational difficulties
-
caregiving pressures
-
neurodivergence and masking
-
grief and loss
-
financial barriers to accessing ongoing support
Many individuals also tell us they have struggled to find support that feels:
-
relational
-
emotionally safe
-
flexible
-
genuinely responsive to their lived experiences.
This continues to reinforce the importance of:
-
accessible counselling
-
reduced-cost therapy
-
neurodiversity-affirming practice
-
community-rooted support
-
nature-based therapeutic spaces.

Why Funding Matters
Funding allows us to:
-
offer reduced-cost and funded places
-
widen access to therapy
-
create supportive community spaces
-
reduce barriers to support
-
develop preventative mental health work rooted in connection, relationship and care.
Funding allows us to continue creating spaces where people can feel connected, emotionally safe, and able to access therapy before distress reaches crisis point.
Help Us Keep Therapy Accessible
Our aim is simple: cost should not be the reason someone cannot access mental health support.
To provide these services safely and sustainably, Earth Wisdom needs an annual income of approximately £90,000.
What that investment enables us to provide
-
up to 30 affordable counselling places each week
-
around 1,380 counselling sessions each year
-
free Health in Nature sessions within local communities
-
structured Nature as a Resource for Mental Health programmes
-
Living in Relationship with Nature programmes, including specialist therapeutic programmes for particular experiences and communities
-
regular Forest Bathing sessions
-
Seasonal Workshops, creating therapeutic community spaces connected to the changing seasons
Why we need funding
The contribution someone makes towards their counselling does not represent the full cost of providing that support.
Behind every therapy session is much more than the hour spent with a counsellor. There are assessments, clinical oversight, supervision, safeguarding, administration, therapeutic space, outcome monitoring, insurance, training and the systems needed to run a safe and ethical service.
The same is true of our community programmes. While funding may cover the therapist time or materials needed to deliver a session, there are also costs behind that delivery - planning, administration, partnerships, safeguarding, venues and the infrastructure that makes the programme possible.
Our nature-based community programmes are currently provided free of charge to participants, helping to remove financial barriers to taking part.
We therefore rely on a combination of client contributions, grants, funded partnerships, contracts and donations to make our work possible.
What we're working towards
A sustainable Earth Wisdom would generate around £30,000 each year through counselling and assessment contributions.
Our model includes approximately £10,000 each year in grant funding to support our free community ecotherapy and nature-based mental health programmes. This enables us to provide around 92 free community sessions each year, including Health in Nature, Forest Bathing, Seasonal Workshops, Nature as a Resource for Mental Health and Living in Relationship with Nature programmes.
That leaves approximately £50,000 each year to secure through further grants, funded partnerships, contracts, donations and community support to meet the approximately £90,000 required to sustain Earth Wisdom as a whole.
Help us make that possible
Whether someone contributes £25 towards accessible counselling, helps fund one of our community programmes, partners with us to deliver therapeutic support, or funds a larger part of our work, every contribution helps build a more sustainable service.
