Health in Nature - Home Start S&G
An opportunity to experience the mental health benefits of spending time in nature.
Service Description
A gentle nature-based wellbeing session for families with children aged 0–6 years. Date: Wednesday 12th August 2026 Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm Location: The Beacon Children and Family Centre, Kingsway, Gloucester, GL2 2AR Fee: Fully Funded (Free) Delivered in partnership with Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester and Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, this gentle session offers families the opportunity to experience the wellbeing benefits of spending time together in nature. Held both indoors and outdoors within the natural environment, the session has been designed to support connection between parents, carers and their children through simple, playful and mindful experiences in nature. Research continues to demonstrate the positive impact that spending time outdoors can have on both adult and child wellbeing, supporting emotional regulation, reducing stress, strengthening relationships and encouraging healthy development. During the session, families will be invited to explore a range of gentle nature-based activities together. These may include sensory exploration, creative activities, mindful awareness, nature connection and opportunities to pause, play and connect with one another. No previous experience is needed. If possible, families are invited to bring along a small item from their garden or a natural object that feels meaningful to them, such as a flower, leaf, feather, seed, stone, piece of bark or a small amount of soil. These will be brought together to create a shared nature mandala before each family takes their item home at the end of the session. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available. Parents and carers remain responsible for their children throughout the session. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, and remember to bring hats, sunscreen and water if the weather is warm. Places are limited and booking is essential.
